A measured record of the scene
Terrestrial laser scanning records a scene as a point cloud of measured 3D coordinates. Using Leica Geosystems ScanStation technology, JP Forensics captures and processes high-density point clouds with survey-grade accuracy, on scenes ranging from complex industrial sites to remote wildland fire investigation areas.
Scenes change. Debris is cleared, roads reopen, and sites are released. JP Forensics responds to active investigations and captures the as-found scene so the measured record outlasts the scene itself.
Control first, then products
Each matter starts with control. GNSS/RTK and surveyed targets establish one coordinate framework, so terrestrial laser scans, UAS imagery, and photographs register to a single measured record. Field acquisition comes first, then office registration and quality checks. Products follow methods, and exhibits follow products, so every demonstrative traces to a documented measurement that can be checked.
Key deliverables
- Millimeter-accurate, registered point clouds
- Registration and georeferencing to project control
- Measured scene diagrams and topographic basemaps
- Feature extraction and 3D modeling
- Change detection over time
- CAD / BIM integration through AutoCAD Civil 3D / Map 3D
- Courtroom exhibits, animations, and presentations
Matters supported
Laser scanning and forensic mapping support accident reconstruction and personal injury, wildland fire origin and cause, officer-involved and use-of-force incidents, and catastrophic injury and wrongful death matters, where the case depends on accurate distances, elevations, and spatial relationships.
Senior-level attention on every matter
The work is led by Joel Panock, LSIT, MSEE, Principal of JP Forensics. Joel has over 22 years of experience in mapping, surveying, LiDAR, UAV data capture, and 3D modeling, and 14+ years of forensic experience and litigation support. He holds an M.S. in Electrical & Computer Engineering from UC Irvine, is a California Land Surveyor-in-Training (LSIT #8695), and is an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot. JP Forensics is deliberately small, so the person who reviews your matter is the person who does the work.
